"These fragments I have shored against my ruins."

博論草稿を圧縮するという非生産的な作業

How could you compress 250+ pages into a chapter-length draft? I first made a shorter version by eliminating from the original draft theoretical sections which I could move to the intro and other chapters. I then deleted redundant sections and digressive parts, keeping them for a later time when I might write a monograph (or other papers). Yet, this shortened version was still too long (150+ pages) and I was constantly confused because I didn't remember which parts I took off. How many times did I look for passages I wanted to work on in vain? So, I opened the longer version and the shorter version side by side, using the former for searching and copying, the latter for revision. But the laptop screen was not large enough for this purpose and my brain got worn out pretty quickly, not suited for this sort of labor. I had a big trouble concentrating on this task and kept distracted. Today was so unproductive.
