Student drafts always make me wonder if non-discriminatory opinions about race and gender students frequently boast of aren't anything other than set phrases and ready-made thought patterns, something like a gadget they installed without learning how to use it creatively and critically beyond a very narrow repertoire their teachers taught. It's so common to hear that they blame the past due to the lack of, say, openness toward gay people, immigrants, and so on, as if the present were flawless. Their claimed "openness" shows a peculiar mixture of shallowness and partiality, ignorance and self-righteousness, and poor ethics and vacuous morality.
