A few weeks ago a student emailed me, saying that she's not coming to class because her family gave a surprise party for her birthday. And the same student wrote to me today that she's absent on Friday because she's going home and surprises her mom for Mother's Day. Alright, she has a fantastic family and they love each other deeply. But what should I say to this student?
