"These fragments I have shored against my ruins."

ヴェルヌを読む

Certainly you read Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days in your childhood. No? At least, I did. However, I didn't notice how pecuniary the adventure of Monsieur Fogg is until today. True, the protagonist embarks for the sake of honor, not for profit. Indeed, a courageous man as he is, M. Fogg risks his life during the itinerary, in order to save a lady who is in danger of suttee in India and rescue his servant from the Indians in the US, at the peril of the success of his attempt. However, how does he defeat misfortunes? By the power of money! He bribes, he bails out, he pays abundantly, excessively, exhaustively. So, one of the morals one would learn from this narrative is: money helps you!
