Grading is, it seems to me, dialectics between sadistic pure reason and self-protective practical bribery. My critical reason ordains that I should give a C+ to this only too poor essay, but my fear of being hated entreats that I should consider how sad s/he'd feel when s/he receive such a low grade and how s/he'd revenge me in the teacher evaluation. Thus, the result of this dialectics is not a synthesis, but a compromise. That is, neither B- nor C+, but a B-/C+.
