民主主義と共産主義についてのアメリカの学生の常識的理解=誤解

hmm, is it correct to say that the cold war means conflicts b/w communism (Russia) and democracy (USA)? This notion is what I keep encountering in reading students' papers. Since they cannot make any distinction b/w economics and politics, this should mean that communism is political and economic--this is not untrue--while democracy is also political and economic. Well, is democracy economic?
